BANGKOK, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Organizers of a pet fair in Thailand set out to resolve the millennia-old grudge match between the tortoise and the hare -- and the race had a surprising outcome.

The organizers placed the tortoise and hare on a small racetrack considerably shorter than the course in Aesop's classic fable, and the hare appeared to have an early lead despite the tortoise getting a head start on distance.

The hare appears to have the race well in hand, but ends up distracted, allowing the tortoise to repeat the performance of its forebearer in the traditional story and claim victory.

The crowd cheers as slow and steady once again wins the race.
