NANJING, China, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Chinese authorities are searching for dozens of snakes that remain on the loose after about 200 escaped from a nearby farm.

The hundreds of monocled cobras escaped from Chunyi livestock farm in August and 150 have since been captured, leaving 50 of the venomous snakes still on the loose, according to Xinhua.

Authorities were made aware of the remaining snakes after a villager from Liuhe district discovered and killed a snake in his home on Oct. 8.

The venom produced by full grown monocled cobras can be fatal if untreated, but the baby cobra's venom is less potent.

The government has brought in snake venom-venom serum from Shanghai and has arranged ambulances and other medical care to treat bites.

A search has begun a search for the escaped cobras within a three mile radius of the farm, which has since been shut down.
