SARASOTA, Fla., Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Police in Florida responded to rumors of hundreds of snakes crawling across a local road early Tuesday morning.
Sarasota County Sheriff's Office shared photos of a pair of banded water snakes which had been sighted near Palmer Blvd. in Sarasota.
"Personnel responded early this morning to the area of Apex Rd., for reports of dozens of snakes in the roadway," police said. "When they arrived, they located several hundred banded watersnakes taking over both east and westbound lanes. "
It is believed the snakes may have been crossing the blacktop seeking warmth as several snakes were struck by passing vehicle while attempting to cross the dark, early morning road, according to police.
Sarasota County Government later responded to the area to help clear snakes off the road.
