The crowd, which included university President John Dunn and his wife, Linda Dunn, surpassed the previous record of 1,087 couples, which was set in 2009 at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
"It was a great day to have so many Broncos together at one time to celebrate their love, celebrate their connection to Western and be together," Renee Pearl, event organizer and director of engagement for WMU, told WWMT-TV.
A Guinness adjudicator was on hand to supervise the attempt and certify the new record.
"As far as we know, this is one of the first large group world records held in Kalamazoo," Pearl told Mlive.com. "Plus it's a great point of pride for our university to have so many Broncos and fans of Broncos to come out and participate."
