ASHEBORO, N.C., Oct. 5 (UPI) -- A North Carolina man found a novel way to add to the value of his 2000 Chevy Blazer -- covering its exterior with 51,300 pennies.
Larry Hall of Randolph County said his formerly white Blazer is turning heads with the new copper color scheme from the 51,300 pennies -- $513 worth -- decorating the surface of the vehicle.
"I had to put them on one by one and it took like seven weeks, six to seven hours a day, and it took 80 tubes of silicone glue and 3 gallons of fiberglass boat glue," Hall told WGHP-TV.
He said the pennies have added some significant weight to the truck.
"The hood is so heavy that I have to prop it open," Hall said. "Now sometimes if you slam the doors real hard, [the pennies] will come off but I have a little glue kit in there and I just get them put them back on there."
"I have enjoyed it since I got done with it," Hall said.
An Orlando, Fla., company called Zeno Office Solutions covered a billboard with 120,000 pennies in 2012 to promote a "penny a print" deal. The pennies were eventually donated to charity.
