"Good news. The python of Verdun was captured this afternoon," the post stated.

The 3-foot long python evaded capture by animal control officials who thought they had located it underneath a porch before it was discovered by a neighbor a few blocks away from its original home, CTV News reported.

The neighbor managed to trap the pet python underneath a box where Verdun's mayor, Jean-François Parenteau, told the CBC animal control officers found the snake in poor shape.

"He was not very strong," he said. "He looked a little bit sick. We know he hasn't eaten much in more than a month."

The python appeared to not have eaten for about a month and was taken to transported to a specialized veterinarian in Pierrefonds for care.

Despite its poor condition the snake was expected to survive and its owner will pay for the medical costs.
