DANA POINT, Calif., Sept. 16 (UPI) -- A California whale-watching boat captain captured video of a rare spectacle -- two gray whales in the process of mating.

The video, filmed earlier this year and posted to YouTube by Dana Point Whale Watching, shows Capt. Todd Mansur's camera drone take off from the tour boat off the Orange County coast and approach some nearby whales.

The drone films a trio of whales swimming close together and it soon becomes apparent that two of the whales are in the throes of passion.

The two whales perform the dance-like motions of mating near the surface of the water while the third whale keeps a close watch.
