LONDON, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- A British art group raised more than $30,000 to replace every advertisement in a London subway station with pictures of cats.
The London Underground's Clapham Common station is home to dozens of cat pictures lining the walls, turnstiles and other advertising locations for the next two weeks after art collective Glimpse raised $30,500 on crowdfunding site Kickstarter to rent the ad spaces.
The 68 cat pictures are branded "Citizens Advertising Takeover Service," or CATS.
"It's important to say that we're not against advertising," Glimpse founder James Turner wrote in a post on Medium. "We need creativity more than ever, to open our eyes to new ways of looking at the world and thinking about our place within it. We want agencies and brands to be mindful of the power they wield and to use it to encourage positive values in society. Things like empathy and tolerance, community and togetherness deserve to be at the heart of our culture."
