Police help capture 11-foot alligator next to two Florida schools

DAVIE, Fla., Sept. 8 (UPI) -- A Florida police department said officers assisted trappers with the capture of an 11-foot alligator seen wandering near two schools.

The Davie Police Department tweeted a photo showing officers posing with the 450-pound alligator after they helped trappers capture the animal near Cypress Bay High School and Falcon Cove Middle School.

Police said there was no danger to students at the schools during the Wednesday morning capture.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said experts will determine whether the alligator will be euthanized or relocated to a more suitable habitat.
