BATH, Mich., Sept. 8 (UPI) -- A police department in Michigan shared a tongue-in-cheek post warning residents that some batches of methamphetamine may have been contaminated by the Zika virus.

The Bath Township Police Department shared a Facebook post warning of the "threat" and offering to "test" batches of meth at the department.

"We have read reports online about meth possibly containing the Zika virus! We DO NOT want this to happen to you," police wrote. "If you recently bought some meth, you can bring it into the Bath Township Police Department and we can test it for you. Your safety is our #1 priority!"

The department explained they made the post as an "outside the box" method of community policing and sought to open a dialogue with those suffering from addiction.

"Hopefully we can get more people talking about the damage that addiction does and hopefully some people get some help out of this," they wrote.
