MALIBU, Calif., Sept. 7 (UPI) -- An injured mockingbird in California was fitted with a pair of special corrective "snowshoes" after being rescued by a local wildlife center.

California Wildlife Center rescued the mockingbird, which was forced to stand on its toes as its feet were knuckling, causing it to be unable to open its feet to stand or perch.

"CWC veterinary staff created "snowshoes" for the mockingbird to retrain her feet to open and allow the injuries to her toes to heal," the center wrote.

The bird was at risk of additional injury after being forced to stand on its toes, but has made a full recovery since being fitted with the snowshoes.
