SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Sept. 1 (UPI) -- A Springfield, Mass., man has become the third resident of the city to win a $1 million scratch-off lottery jackpot during the past two weeks.

The Massachusetts State Lottery said Alexander Lopez scratched off a "$1,000,000 Lucky Numbers" ticket this week and discovered he had won the top prize.

Lopez's win comes after Springfield resident Lila Lagares won a $1 million prize from a scratch-off ticket Aug. 16 and local man Denis Normand won the same amount from a scratch-off Aug. 22.

Lopez, Lagares and Normand all opted to take the lump-sum payment of $650,000, or about $455,000 after taxes.

Lopez told lottery officials he plans to use his winnings to buy a home.

The Ludlow Smoke shop, were Lopez purchased his ticket, will receive a $10,000 commission for selling the winner.
