The woman then began screaming and tossed the containers of insects in the air, sending the rest of the car into a panic.
Other passengers pushed to the opposite end of the car and one pulled the brake, stopping the car between stations on Manhattan Bridge for at least 30 minutes. The air conditioning also shut off.
"It was pandemonium," said Chris Calabrese, 29, who was on board with his girlfriend. "It was the craziest thing I've ever seen on a train."
Several passengers tried to restrain the woman who continued to scream, then began urinating on herself and attempting to vomit on them, the New York Post reported.
"Crickets everywhere and 100 people were trying to run," passenger John Ray wrote on Facebook. "To where? People crammed into one end of the train. The air conditioning shut off. She was freaking out because she couldn't breathe because she was in such a state and there was no air."
The train eventually got rolling again and arrived at DeKalb Avenue station. Police were waiting on the platform and took the woman into custody, Calabrese said.
