Squirrel causes power outage near Buffalo airport

BUFFALO, N.Y., Aug. 19 (UPI) -- A squirrel was responsible for a power outage near a Buffalo airport on Friday morning which caused a flight delay.

According to WGRZ, airport officials said the outage affected gates 15-26 at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport and caused one flight to be delayed for five minutes.

Buffalo News reports the squirrel entered an electrical substation and was electrocuted.

The incident resulted in the outage which also knocked out several traffic lights in the area and left 25 New York State Electric and Gas customers without power after 10 a.m.

Power was restored to the area by 11:45 a.m.
