'Googly-eyed' Stubby Squid spotted near California

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- A small purple cuttlefish with large black pupils was spotted in the ocean near California during an internet live stream.

Nautilus Live shared video of the Stubby Squid whose eyes resembly "googly-eyes" and body looks like a cross between a squid and an octopus.

"This species spends life on the seafloor, activating a sticky mucus jacket and burrowing into the sediment to camouflage, leaving their eyes poking out to spot prey like shrimp and small fish," they wrote on their website.

The cartoonish looking cuttlefish was found 900m deep in the ocean off the coast of Southern California.

Stubby Squids use their large "googly" eyes to hunt for food while their body remains hidden beneath the sand.
