BARCELONA, Spain, July 19 (UPI) -- Police in Spain said they were perplexed by a viral video that appears to show a man in a wheelchair weaving in and out of traffic at high speeds.

The video, posted to the Barcelona Secret page on Facebook, shows a man in a wheelchair rolling at a seemingly high rate of speed down the bus lane of a busy Barcelona road while a passenger on a motorcycle films him from behind.

The man weaves in and out of traffic, passing slower-moving cars on the crowded road.

"We've only seen the video on YouTube," a Barcelona police spokesman told The Guardian. "We didn't see it as it happened and so we haven't been able to do anything. The man in the wheelchair remains unidentified as it's hard to identify someone in a wheelchair in a video. It isn't like a car where you have a number plate."

The spokesman suggested there's a chance the video was a hoax, possibly for advertising purposes.

"It wouldn't be the first time," the spokesman said. "Sometimes these weird videos go viral and then it turns out that they're part of an advertising campaign. You never know."

He said police are not currently planning to take any action relating to the footage.

"The video is very odd, but from a policing point of view, if no damage was done and it was something 'invisible,' then there's not much we can do. The world does sometimes go mad," he said.
