TYBEE ISLAND, Ga., June 22 (UPI) -- Firefighters on a Georgia island assisted a trapper with the capture of a 7-foot alligator found in an unusual location -- the Atlantic Ocean.

The Tybee Island Fire Department posted a video to Facebook showing firefighters assisting professional alligator catcher "Trapper Jack" Douglas with the capture of the gator Friday at the south end of Tybee Island Beach.

"That was a little different," Douglas told the Savannah Morning News. "We don't get a call down there but once every three years, and rarely on the main beach."

Douglas said the alligator, a freshwater reptile unaccustomed to salt water, likely was not in the ocean for very long. He said the gator likely made his way to the ocean from a freshwater pond or the Savannah River.
