GRAEAGLE, Calif., June 21 (UPI) -- A California mountain biker's head-mounted camera captured the moment he collided with a bear that ran out onto the trail ahead of him.

Davis Souza, 26, posted a video to Instagram June 14 showing footage from his ride with friends on a Sierra Nevada trail in Graeagle.

The video shows Souza come crashing to the ground when his bike collides with a bear that darted out into the path ahead of him.

"#tramplebearstuesday this bear came out of nowhere and was gone before I could ask if it was alright or anything," Souza wrote on Instagram.

The cyclist said he has spotted bears in the area before.

"I've seen them off to the side, doing their bear thing but never one moving this fast," he told KOVR-TV.

Souza said he suffered only minor soreness from the crash.

"I didn't have any time to react," he said. "He just swooped my front tire out from underneath me and I got the wind knocked out of me pretty good and a few scrapes, but nothing else."
