KOTA BARU, Malaysia, June 21 (UPI) -- A runaway horse has become Malaysia's latest social media star after being filmed sprinting down the side of a highway.

Adli Alimin said he was driving to his office Sunday morning in Kota Baru, Kelantan, when he captured a pair of videos showing the horse running along the highway.

Alimin, who posted his videos to Facebook, told The Star newspaper the horse was apparently running on the highway "for a good 45 minutes," covering a distance of more than 6 miles.

"The horse was galloping on the highway while several cars tailed it, causing traffic to slow down at the flyover from Pasir Pekan to Kota Baru," Alimin said. "We had to be extra cautious as we didn't know how it would react. It kept switching lanes; we were worried for its safety."

The origin and final destination of the horse were unclear.

The equine's highway run drew comparisons to Chickaboo the ostrich, which rose to fame Thursday in Malaysia when it was filmed running on a stretch of highway in Kuala Lumpur.
