OMAHA, June 15 (UPI) -- A mother in Omaha witnessed a group of teens "car surfing" in her neighborhood that raised concerns among herself and other parents.
Kathy Harvey told KETV that she was taking a walk when she heard car tires screeching and saw a teen grabbing onto the top of a red vehicle as another drove throughout the neighborhood.
"It made me sick when I first saw it. I thought the kid on top was going to fly off. If he stopped fast enough he would have flown off easy," she told Nebraska Radio Network.
Harvey approached other teens that were in the area and tried to inform them how dangerous that behavior was and also shared that message with her 16-year-old son.
She also managed to capture video of the incident and posted it to Facebook where she received several messages from other concerned parents.
The mother of one of the teens in the vehicle shared a statement with KETV expressing disappointment in her son's actions.
"I would not have predicted my son would be this stupid, reckless and careless. I warn my kids about all sorts of dangers but this was not one of them, because who does something so stupid?" she said. "All of the parents have been contacted and there are severe consequences for the kids involved. By the grace of God, I get to punish him and for that I am grateful."
Police also expressed that they were looking into the incident and hinted at a possible reckless driving citation.
"What we're seeing from the videos, we saw today, is extremely dangerous and kids should be aware of what they're doing, and that this isn't a game," Omaha Police Department officer Phil Anson said.
