MONTREAL, June 15 (UPI) -- A Montreal man who got a squirrel statue for his birthday took it to the park and found that real squirrels "didn't quite know how to react" to the sculpture.

David Freiheit posted a video to YouTube showing his "experiment" with his birthday present at a Montreal park.

A piece of bread placed on the statue's head draws the attention of squirrels in the park, but the creatures seem wary of the offered food due to its location atop the artificial squirrel.

The squirrels slowly approach and sniff at the statue, but they appear wary of touching it or the bread on its head.

One particularly brave squirrel circles the statue a few times before sneaking up behind it and snatching the bread from its head.

"He got it!" Freiheit says as the squirrel flees.

"A friend bought me this squirrel statue for my birthday," he wrote in the video's description. "Did a funny experiment where I put a piece of bread on its head to see how real squirrels would react. They didn't quite know how to react."
