WASHINGTON, June 13 (UPI) -- A budding fisherman learned a hard lesson about the mercurial nature of success when a hawk swooped out of the sky and stole the fish from his line.

The video shows the hawk skimming the top of the water and managing to graze a fish that has been hooked by a young boy in a boat.

"Oh, it's cut, it's cut," the boy says, "the fish is cut."

The hawk circles around like it's preparing to make another pass and the cameraman adjusts his angle capture the raptor's second attempt.

The bird of prey snatches the fish in its talons, eliciting laughter from the adults in the boat.

"What do I do? What do I do?" the boy asks.

The men tell him to hold onto his fishing rod, and the hawk appears to get away with the fish without stealing the boy's pole.

"That was hilarious," a man says. "I've never seen that before in my life."
