Chicago zoo introduces newborn camel named 'Alexander Camelton'

CHICAGO, June 9 (UPI) -- A zoo in Chicago drew inspiration from founding father Alexander Hamilton and the hit musical based on his life to come up with a clever name for their new baby camel.

Lincoln Park Zoo shared photos to introduce "Alexander Camelton" the Bactrian camel calf that was born on May 9.

"With a name like Alexander Camelton, Lincoln Park Zoo's baby Bactrian camel has some big footsteps to follow," they wrote in a separate Facebook post. "Fortunately, he'll likely weigh upwards of 2,000 pounds and measure 7 feet tall at the top of his humps as a mature adult male—so those footsteps shouldn't be an issue."

Curator Diane Mulkerin described Alexander Camelton's introduction to the herd and said he had a tendency to chase the female camels in a Facebook video.

Alexander Camelton is the first camel calf born at the zoo in 18 years and garnered attention from many social media users including Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda who responded to news of the camel's name by tweeting a camel emoji and a blushing face emoji.
