RESTON, Va., June 1 (UPI) -- A Virginia dog owner whose canine kept breaking his prosthetic paw took matters into his own hands with an old pair of Nikes.

Don Chernoff of Reston said his dog, Sunny, had his left paw amputated due to a tumor and his prosthetic paw kept breaking under the weight of the large dog, who also had a penchant for chewing on the false limb.

Chernoff said he destroyed his old pair of Nike Zoom Vapor 9 tennis shoes and used the remains, as well as some duct tape, to upgrade the "faux paw" into a more Sunny-friendly means of getting around.

"It works much better and now Sunny is a Nike dog! Roger Federer would be proud," Chernoff wrote in the video's description.
