LABELLE, Fla., May 19 (UPI) -- The Florida Agricultural Crimes Intelligence Unit released a photo of a suspect in an unusual crime -- an alligator fleeing with a stolen watermelon.
The unit posted a photo to Facebook showing the apparently hungry gator carrying the melon in its mouth while climbing into a Hendry County lake.
Officials said the reptile apparently pilfered the fruit from a nearby watermelon field.
The post said the picture was snapped by an incredulous officer who spotted the alligator fleeing with its ill-gotten gains.
