Ambitious water snake takes on much larger catfish in Texas battle

BASTROP, Texas, May 11 (UPI) -- A kayaker in Texas came across an unusual battle in nature: a blotched water snake trying to kill and eat a much larger catfish.

Bruce Burns posted a video to YouTube showing the footage he captured last month on the bank of the Colorado River near Bastrop, Texas.

The video shows a blotched water snake latched on to a much larger catfish that refused to surrender to the nonvenomous snake without a fight.

The snake and fish become tangled in moss as they thrash around in the water.

The struggle goes on for more than three minutes and ends with the apparent -- but inconclusive -- death of the catfish.
