According to the Charolette Observer, the driver told state troopers that he had fallen asleep at the wheel after hearing of truckers being arrested in North Carolina for pulling over to the roadside to sleep.
The truck was destroyed in the crash and fuel spilled onto the interstate and most of the potatoes.
