The man placed the box in his car and then happened to see a Madison police department officer nearby a few moments later and informed him of the unusual box.
"The citizen lowered his window and 'motioned for me to do the same,' recounted the officer. The man yelled he had just found a 'big box of blood, human blood,'" the police report stated.
Both the man and the officer pulled into a nearby parking lot where they contacted the local American Red Cross location, where a lab technician confirmed they were missing a box of blood.
Police returned the box to the Red Cross location and the lab tech speculated that a volunteer likely accidentally left the box on top of the car after unloading the rest, but was thankful it arrived in good condition.
"The good news is it was not struck by a car or truck, and was undamaged: good to go," the police report stated.
