LONDON, April 28 (UPI) -- A British man filming stormy weather in London captured the moment a bolt of lightning collided with a plane preparing to land.

Aled Rhys Jones posted a video to YouTube showing slowed-down footage from the Wednesday evening thunderstorm over West London.

The video shows a bolt of lightning appear to strike a plane headed toward Heathrow Airport.

British Airways said the plane, flight BA857, landed safely at Heathrow after departing from Prague.

The airline confirmed the plane had been struck by lightning, but was designed to withstand such incidents and was not damaged.

"Flight BA857 landed safely, and will undergo inspection before it returns to service. The safety of our customers and crew is always our top priority," the airline said in a statement provided to the Evening Standard. "Lightning strikes are fairly common, and aircraft are designed to cope with them."

Passengers on at least two other flights reported their planes being struck by lightning over London Wednesday evening.
