WESTFORD , Mass., April 22 (UPI) -- A Massachusetts woman narrowly avoided injury after a metal bar came crashing through her windshield while she was driving on a local highway.

Massachusetts State Police shared a photo of the square-shaped metal bar lodged in the front windshield of the red Mitsubishi.

"This evening, just before 5:00 p.m., a 59-year-old woman from Westford was traveling route 495 South bound when a square piece of metal came through her windshield," they wrote.

Police believe the bar may have fallen off from or been launched into the air by a passing garbage truck and noted that they received two other calls of debris on the road including a ladder near Billerica.

The woman was not injured in the incident and police warned residents to secure loose objects in their vehicles.

"We are thankful the woman was not injured, but would like to remind all motorists to ensure all loads are properly secured," Police wrote. "This incident could have had a fatal outcome."
