VANCOUVER, British Columbia, April 20 (UPI) -- A sous-chef helped return a Canadian woman's stolen bicycle after spotting the theft from his restaurant and chasing down the thief.

The bike's owner, Rachel Peake, eventually came across Bestie Cafe while searching for her bike and spotted a note seeking the bike's owner.

"It turns out that their sous-chef, Chris Husted, had spotted something suspicious going on with a bike," she wrote. "A bike enthusiast himself he went out to have a look, and was told by some people across the street that they saw the guy steal my bike."

Husted chased down the thief and caused them to drop the bike, before returning it to the restaurant and attempting to find its owner.

Bestie Cafe posted a photo of the bike on Instagram and encouraged the bike's owner to come to the restaurant to reclaim it.

"One of our cooks stopped a bike thief from stealing this beaut," they wrote. "Come down with the magic key to reunite her with the rightful owner."

Peake expressed her gratitude to Husted for his act of heroism and mentioned that the bike carried sentimental value after she was hit by a cab and suffered a spine injury.

"Having it rescued in this way renews my faith in people," she wrote. "It renews my love of community. It has replaced my feeling of helplessness with light and joy."
