BELLA VISTA, Australia, April 19 (UPI) -- An Australian supermarket recalled a batch of broccoli after customers reported finding venomous redback spiders in the produce.
Customer Dee Nott posted a photo to Woolworths' Facebook page during the weekend showing a redback spider she found crawling on the broccoli she bought from the chain's Runaway Bay, Queensland, location.
"I just had a nasty surprise -- a live redback spider in my broccoli purchased today at your Runaway Bay store. I am lucky it did not bite me as I washed it. I plan to take in the critter (now frozen) and my receipt tomorrow. I thought I should mention it in case there is an infestation," Nott wrote.
Another customer, Maurice Wilson, said he recently found a similar spider in the broccoli he purchased from the Woolworths store in Nambour.
The store said it is investigating the discoveries.
"Supply of this batch of product has been temporarily suspended while we work closely with three of our Queensland suppliers to ensure we are receiving the best-quality produce," a Woolworths representative told the Brisbane Times. "We are currently in contact with customers who have brought concerns to our attention."
