Cat rescued after being stuck on utility pole for four days

PRINCETON, British Columbia, April 15 (UPI) -- Utility crews in Canada worked to rescue a local cat that had been stuck on top of a utility pole for four days.

Video shows the cat, belonging to Princeton resident Bill Blackhall, stranded at the top of the pole and meowing loudly in distress.

Confusion over who was responsible for getting the cat down from the pole extended what Blackhall told the CBC was "a desperate situation."

Blackhall also said he believed the one-year-old tabby cat was chased up the pole by another cat.

On Thursday, crews from BC Hydro announced via Twitter that they would attempt to find a safe way to bring the cat down from the approximately 60-foot high pole that was attached to a 138,000 volt line.

"Specialized crew is mobilizing from [Salmon Arm] to rescue the cat and will arrive on site later this afternoon with equipment required," they wrote.

The rescue attempts were delayed for several hours after BC Hydro crews were forced to respond to an urgent power outage.

BC Hydro were eventually able to rescue the cat and shared a photo as a crew member prepared to return the animal to Blackhall.

"Big thanks to our crews who arrived to #savetheprincetonbccat, now safe & sound with owner," they wrote.
