Florida Gov. Rick Scott goes to Starbucks, gets an earful

The coffee was hot and the commentary even hotter as Florida Gov. Rick Scott and a small entourage endured a blistering tirade at Starbucks on Tuesday.

YouTube user Stephen Bender's video "Governor Scott gets an earful" starts after Cara Jennings, 39, of Lake Worth began shouting at the Republican governor about "cutting Medicaid so I couldn't get Obamacare. You're an (expletive)! "You don't care about working people!"

Like other GOP governors who opposed the new health care law, Scott refused to accept federal funding to expand Medicaid coverage in Florida, which would have opened up more subsidies to help low-income residents afford insurance under the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as "Obamacare."

Jennings told the Broward-Palm Beach New Times that she and her 2 1/2-year-old daughter fall into the gap where they don't qualify for Obamacare or Medicaid. She said things escalated after Scott told her to "'go to the county health clinic'," apparently before the YouTube video begins.

The video shows a member of Scott's entourage approach Jennings, who brushes her off saying "I'm not talking to you," turning her attention back to Scott.

"You don't care about working people. You should be ashamed to show yourself around here," Jennings says.

"Oh really?" the governor responded softly. "We got a million jobs."

"A million jobs? Wait. Who here has a great job?" Jennings asks, gesturing around the coffee shop.

As another Scott aide moves up to Jennings from behind, the governor briefly approaches the counter before his entourage starts heading for the door. Scott also turns to leave with Jennings yelling after him "You stripped women of access to public health care. Shame on you, Rick Scott."

Scott's parting words are difficult to make out, but it appears he tells Jennings she should "try telling the truth."

Jennings continues as the camera follows Scott and his group walking out. "We depend on those services. Rich people like you don't know what to do when poor people like us need health services, you cut 'em. Shame on you, Rick Scott. You're an embarrassment to our state!"

Pointing the camera back to Jennings, the person shooting the 48-second video says "Sweet."

Jennings, a former Lake Worth city commissioner and a stay-at-home mom who works part-time, was featured in local news reports after the video posted online and began trending in Google searches.

"I didn't think about whether I should do it or not," she told ABC Action News. "I thought, 'Here's my chance to tell the governor how I feel about the horrible bill.'"

Bender's video had more than 170,000 views by early Wednesday afternoon.
