Swan blocks traffic on busy road with mid-morning stroll

MANCHESTER, England, April 4 (UPI) -- Morning traffic in Manchester, England, was brought to a crawl Monday morning when an inconsiderate pedestrian -- a swan -- decided to stroll in the road.

A video posted to YouTube by Joe Daly shows vehicles moving at ultra-slow speeds about 10 a.m. Monday on the busy Great Ancoats Street as the swan takes a slow-speed stroll down the road in front of a semi truck.

The traffic-stopping bird was dubbed "Manchester Swan" on social media.

"Manchester Swan taking his time to work on Monday morning," Dely joked on Twitter.

Dely said he called police, who were able to pluck the swan from the road and take it to safer terrain.

Twitter users suggested swans often run into trouble when they mistake wet roads for bodies of water.

Dely said the swan has been dubbed the official pet of his literature organization, Bad Language.
