REGINA, Saskatchewan, April 1 (UPI) -- A humane society in Canada is using a local provincial election to promote an upcoming cat adoption event.

Regina Humane Society had several cats represent candidates from each political party in Saskatchewan's provincial election to promote their "Pick your Cat-idate" adoption event.

"Pick your Cat-idate from the Sask-cat-chewan Party, the Green Paw-ty, the Lib-purr-als or the New Demo-cats!" They wrote.

Candidate CJ Katz stopped by the humane society to take a photo with the cat that represented her and also sponsored its adoption.

During the event, which takes place from April1-3, all cat and kitten adoptions are reduced to $50 including a complimentary veterinary exam, spay/neuter surgery, microchip, tattoo and vaccinations.

"There's a lot of cats out there that are homeless and we're hoping to find some homes for them this weekend," Bill Thorn of the humane society told the CBC.
