GALDAR, Spain, March 4 (UPI) -- A pair of husband-and-wife kayakers off the coast of Spain rescued a sea turtle they found swimming around with its body tangled in a fishing net.

Video of the incident, which took place late last year off the coast of Gran Canaria, shows the kayakers approach an animal in the water that appears to be showing signs of distress.

The animal is soon identified as a sea turtle and the husband plucks the amphibian out of the water, revealing it is tangled in fishing net.

The man uses a knife to cut the turtle's neck and flippers free from the net.

The rescuer checks the turtle for injuries and gives it a small kiss on the read before releasing it back into the water.
