SILVERDALE, Wash., March 3 (UPI) -- A Washington state couple said they are lucky to be alive after a semi truck tire crashed through their windshield only 10 minutes after they purchased the car.

Aimee Blanton and Jeremy Deiter said they were driving Tuesday afternoon toward Silverdale on State Route 303 when a nearby tractor-trailer bucked one of its tires.

"The semi truck was driving two lanes over and I saw his tire start to wobble and it spun, it was coming straight at me and if it weren't for the steering wheel, I probably would have lost my life," Blanton told KCQP-TV.

The tire crashed through the windshield and landed between the seats of the couple's 1999 Honda Civic, which they purchased just 10 minutes before the accident.

"I ducked down to dodge the tire," Deiter told KOMO-TV. "Otherwise it would have ripped my head off."

The couple said they were lucky to be alive.

"I don't understand how we made it; it was like God came down and just smacked the tire out of the way just in time," Deiter said.

The couple said the damage to the car was estimated to exceed $4,000 -- more than they paid for the vehicle.

"It was going to help me get a job," Blanton said.

The couple said they are working with the truck driver's insurance company to try to recoup their loss and they have set up a GoFundMe page to help replace the vehicle.

Deiter said the near-brush with death has left him with a new appreciation of life.

"I made sure to tell her I loved her this morning," Deiter said. "Makes me appreciate things in life more. Anytime, you could be taken."
