Watch: Airplane passenger captures footage of tornado

NEW ORLEANS, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- An airline passenger captured video of his plane flying over a tornado on Tuesday.

Dan Holzmann shared the video to Facebook as lightning lights up the spiral of wind below the plane's wing as it flies over New Orleans.

"Flying over a tornado...scary!" He wrote.

The video shows the plane appearing to fly steadily with little turbulence and Holzmann confirmed via Facebook that the plane landed safely despite a brief scare.

"I've touched down safely," he wrote in the comments. "It was amazing. A once of a lifetime experience. Even the pilot freaked out."

Storms have caused high winds across the southern United States, affecting Louisiana and Mississippi and some parts of Alabama and Florida.
