Wallet finder returns license, keeps cash for 'weed'

NEW YORK, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- A New York man who lost his wallet at a concert said his license and credit cards were returned with a note explaining his cash was kept to buy "weed."

Reilly Flaherty, 28, said he lost his wallet at a Wilco concert in Brooklyn Feb. 5 and he assumed he would never see the wallet or its contents again after a search of the theater came up empty.

However, Flaherty said he received an envelope in the mail about a week later from what can only be charitably called a just-OK Samaritan.

The envelope contained his driver's license, credit cards and a note explaining why his cash, MetroCard and wallet weren't returned.

The note reads:

"Dear Reilly Flaherty, I found your wallet and your driver's license had your address so here's your credit cards and other important stuff. I kept the cash because I needed weed. The Metrocard because well the fare's $2.75 now and the wallet 'cause it kinda cool. Enjoy the rest of your day. Toodles, Anonymous."

"I thought everything was gone, so it was kind of cool to get part of what was lost," Flaherty told WABC-TV. "After I read the note, it was very clear that this was the work of a specialist. We've got this pot-smoking, modern day Robin Hood that's out there."

"The ironic thing really is that, you know, we could've been good friends both like Wilco, into indie music, same taste in wallets but he or she tried to take what was of any currency any value," Flaherty said.
