Nestle Japan said the sake Kit Kats were directly influenced by the success of the green tea variety, which saw 2015's sales increase by 20 percent over the previous year, a spike attributed largely to the candy's popularity with tourists.
The sake Kit Kats were created by adding sake powder to the wafers, which are encased in white chocolate.
The company said the candy was designed to leave an aftertaste that mimics the "mellow flavor" of sake.
