SUNSHINE COAST, Australia, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- An Australian snake catcher managed to avoid serious injury as he attempted to capture a lace monitor.

A video posted to Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7's Facebook page shows a snake catcher named Richie attempting to place the monitor into a plastic bin as the large reptile resists.

"He's been catching monitors since he was a kid and never been bitten but today his perfect record nearly came to an end," the post read. "It bit his shoe as Richie was reaching for the tub to place it in. It was very close to a painful bite!"

The post also notes that the monitor scratched Richie with its long claws, however no blood was shed.

A homeowner called the snake catchers to remove the monitor as she feared it may harm her young children after it began eating the owner's pets, as well as three chicks and the foot of a full-grown chicken.
