GEORGETOWN, Texas, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- A Texas man with vision in only one eye said he was inspired to adopt a puppy missing an eye when his kids pointed out the similarities between them.

A picture featuring Jordan Trent, 32, of Georgetown holding the one-eyed Australian Shepherd, which his family named Shiner Solo, went viral after his sister, Kendra, posted it on Reddit.

"I told him, 'It's getting big, it's kind of crazy,'" Kendra Trent told ABC News. "Jordan, he is a good, good guy, so it's really fun to see all the love and support. He totally deserves it."

Jordan Trent said he decided to adopt the puppy after his kids pointed out that the canine's missing eye reminded them of their father's left eye, which was damaged in an accident when he was 15.

"My kids said 'Hey Dad, there's a dog that's blind in his eye just like you,'" Trent said. "I looked at it and it was the cutest dog in the world. He was the last of the litter. We scooped him up and brought him home."
