University adds 'manspreading,' 'break the Internet' to Banished Words list

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich., Dec. 31 (UPI) -- A Michigan university said its annual list of overused and misused words "banished" from the language include "so," "problematic" and "manspreading."

Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie issued its 41st annual List of Words Banished from the Queen's English for Mis-use, Over-use and General Uselessness this week, pleading with the public to stop using such words and phrases as "stakeholder," "price point," "walk it back," "vape," "giving me life" and "break the Internet."

The list is compiled from nominations submitted by people from around the world.

"Overused words and phrases are 'problematic' for thousands of Queen's English 'stakeholders,'" the university said.  "Once something is banished, there's no 'walking it back;' that's our 'secret sauce,' and there's no 'price point' for that."
