GRAND JUNCTION, Colo., Dec. 22 (UPI) -- A fundraising campaign was launched for a Colorado busboy after he returned an envelope containing $3,000 that had been accidentally left in a restaurant bathroom.

The story of busboy Johnny "Thumper" Duckworth has inspired a GoFundMe campaign entitled "Tip Thumper" after he found and returned and envelope containing $3,000 despite his own financial struggles.

"We are trying to raise money for Thumper to help them out through his hard times," Randy Emmons, creator of the GoFundMe page, wrote. "His car has broken down and he lives house to house with friends and family. He doesn't have enough money to get into his own house because of the doctor bills he's acquired that garnish his paycheck every week."

Duckworth found the envelope while cleaning the restrooms on Dec. 15 and went on to turn it in to his boss Randy Emmons.

"He walked up to me and said 'Boss I found this envelope it feels like it has a lot of money in it," Emmons told KKCO. "And he handed it to me and walked away."

When Emmons opened the envelope, revealing 30 $100 bills, he considered how much Duckworth could use the money. But Duckworth said firmly he never considered keeping the money for himself.

"It's not mine," he said. "I work for a living I make money."

The envelope was eventually taken to the local bank and returned to its rightful owner Darrell Cox, who went on to express his gratitude to Duckworth.

"He was here at the counter and I was back at the booth with one of my grandsons," he said. "I wrote him a note on the back of an envelope...it said Merry Christmas to a super honest guy."

Cox also gave Duckworth $300 and his GoFundMe page has raised over $12,000 surpassing its original $3,000 goal.
