RUTHERFORD, Australia, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- An Australian man filming a hailstorm caught footage of lightning striking a vehicle while it was being moved by a friend.

Tim McDonald was filming the storm Thursday in Rutherford, New South Wales, while his friend, Jason Tait, was moving a sport-utility vehicle belonging to Ken Marvin from an outside parking lot to a sheltered area.

McDonald was filming when a bolt of lightning struck the SUV.

Tait said he didn't feel a shock from the lightning and assumed he was being pranked until he saw the footage.

"I've seen a flash out the back window but that was it," Tait told the Sydney Morning Herald. "I was a bit shocked when I actually saw what happened. I honestly thought those guys were stitching me up."
