TORONTO, Nov. 24 (UPI) -- A Canadian woman is looking to brighten her elderly mother's holiday by asking her Facebook friends to send her mother Christmas cards.
Jane Gilbert's 85-year-old mother Doreen had a tradition of lining the walls with Christmas cards, but the number of cards she received began to dwindle as many of her friends passed away. So Jane took to Facebook to encourage people to send her cards to help cheer her mother up.
"One of her favorite things during the holidays is not the gifts or the food, it's checking the mailbox every day to see if, by chance, there is a Christmas Card for her. You can understand that at this stage in your life you want to make sure that you have not been forgotten," she wrote.
Gilbert's plea went viral receiving over 200 shares and several comments promising to send Doreen cards.
She also included her address in the post and encouraged anyone willing to send in a card to do so.
"If you can find it in your heart to send my Mum a card, even if you don't personally know her, it would let her know that she is not forgotten!" she wrote.
