LONDON, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- A London sportswear company has incorporated psychological theory in its design to create a hoodie designed to provide a calming effect.

Twin brothers and founders of Vollebak Steve and Nick Tidball have released the "Baker Miller Pink Hoodie," inspired by the psychological research of Alexander Schauss.

Steve Tidball told Wired that he and his brother designed the hoodie to reflect their personal needs as athletes throughout their decade of experience in extreme sports.

"A lot of brands are obsessed with what's the new green or what's the latest material athletes would like to wear," he said. "We approached it from what do I as an athlete need?"

The hoodie's Baker-Miller Pink color scheme was selected for its supposed calming effects to soothe an athletes nerves before an event. Research has shown that this specific shade of pink can slow down a subject's heart rate.

Another unique feature of the hoodie is the hood, which zips around the wearer's head and has various holes designed to tint vision and control breathing.

When fully zipped, the hood provides 80 percent visibility and tints everything the wearer sees with a shade of Baker-Miller Pink. The hood also encourages the wearer to breathe through their nose, which also assists in lowering heart rate.

Breathing is also assisted by the asymmetrical front pockets.

The pockets also help prevent the wearer from expending extra energy.

"Essentially it's like wearing a straight jacket," Tidball said.

The hoodie is available for purchase on the Vollebak website for $330.
