April Lawson said she was enraged when she saw a crowd of men camped outside a new South Side shoe store recently amid a plague of gun violence in the city. The Spike Lee film, which is in turn inspired by Aristophanes' Greek classic Lysistrata, follows a group of neighborhood women to pledge to withhold sex until their men agree to cease gun violence. "If you decide to silently protest," Lawson said. "It might get them to think." Lawson posted a petition on Change.org calling on the city's women to join her effort. "I vow to stay celibate until black men organize and create a strategy to keep the peace in our neighborhoods," Lawson wrote.
