Tumbles the two-legged puppy gets a 3-D printed wheelchair

ATHENS, Ohio, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- A puppy born without front legs is learning to walk with a 3-D printed wheelchair designed and created at the Ohio University Innovation Center.

The puppy, named Tumbles, was rescued from the cold when he was only 2-weeks-old, said the Friends of the Shelter Dogs charity in Athens, Ohio.

Tumbles taught himself to get around by scooting across the floor using his nose and back legs, but he was taken to the Ohio University Innovation Center when a veterinarian recommended a wheelchair be used to help the puppy develop his back leg muscles more naturally.

The puppy's set of wheels was created in about 14 hours by a 3-D printer at the Innovation Center.

Friends of Shelter Dogs said Tumbles will need some practice with the cart before he becomes an expert and the wheels will have to be adjusted for the 1.5-pound pup's small size.
